What can I do to treat the sores on my dog from his constant scratching from fleas?

We have been giving him regular baths, treat him for fleas, etc.. but they keep coming back. His skin is red, and irritated. Are there any over the counter remedys?

Above all, you need to keep your dog flea free, that means putting a topical liquid - a good, name brand one like Advantix or Frontline Plus - on your dog EVERY SINGLE MONTH, without fail.

Flea dips, baths, collars, etc. only get rid of a few adult fleas, the eggs and larvae hatch and your dog has fleas again - doesn't do any good.

The only thing that prevents fleas are GOOD, name brand topical liquids, not harz or adams or any junk like that --- get Advantix or Frontline Plus.

As to his sores - hot spots really - get a spray from the vet,

Genesis, it is good for this, stops the itching and helps heal.

Meanwhile, put some antibiotic cream on the spots - but get him to the vet asap.

If he is truly flea infested, the vet can give him a pill, Capstar, that gets rid of fleas very quickly -- but you must PREVENT fleas with a monthly liquid like Advantix.

Get going, your poor dog doesn't need to be infested like that, I have 6 dogs, live in the rural south and with Advantix every month, my dogs never have fleas or ticks. Advantix also repels mosquitos.

you need the frontline solution to get rid of all the fleas and the eggs...you will need to buy these (not very cheap) to help your furry friend to get rid of these agony.

Please check if your house is infested as well and if he does have a bed, check if it is infested as well.

please use the flea comb to get rid of the remaining fleas.

the fleas are coming back because you cannot only treat the dog, you have to treat the house and yard as well.
