Why does my dog lick the air in the bedroom?

he's a 9 year old chihuahua, and he's only started this behaviour after we recently moved to a new place. Also, he only does it in the bedroom and not anywhere else in the house.

are you sure hes not licking his nose? Dogs usually lick their nose.

Was there a fan on or snything like that?

I have a Chihuahua. Did have three in fact. All of them do the same thing; one in particular. I think it is something that is irritating or tickling their throat, tongue, or mouth. There may be particulates in the air in the bedroom, or something.

I think it helps with smelling. My dog always dose that, and she dose it allot when there's strong smelling food around even though she can't see it.

They do that to collect Pheromones to be processed by the Vomeronasal Organ.

All of which you can learn about by doing a web serch of "Jacobson's Organ"

Doing that helps them smell the place better.

there must be something in the air that smells funny to him. Dogs are very good at smelling things that humans cant so if you have a gas powered home or something to that effect, you might want to get it checked to make sure theres no leak.

Is there a fan in the bedroom? most of my dogs lick the air whenever some of it is blown in their face.

lol. dogs can see and smell stuff better than we can.
