I want to train my dog not to go running off?

Every time I let my dog off her leash, she goes running off. I am still trying, but I need a lot of help... I need the best answers from so MANY people to help me please!

You need to watch this video. http://petvideo.com/index.cgi?category=5… . And remember to reward a lot.

Obedience ,obedience obedience!!! work on lead till trustworthy then off lead.

its harder to train older dogs. teach them that when u call them and the come they get a nice treat. a dog treat or pieces of hot dogs things that have a strong smell and they like if they wander to far on the leash call them n give them a treat. eventually u might be able to let her of the leash. plus maybe take the dog to a dog park with a fence and just let her run till they get tired. they might be less likely to just run.

What you need to do is let her off the leash. When she runs off go off after her. When you get her you should give her a little spanking just to show that you mean business. Try it again afterward and if she does it again put her in time out. Leave her in time out for 10 to 20 minutes (what ever you want). Ifs doesn the treat her. When you let her out try it again. If she still runs off spank her and out her in time out. You should do this every day or at least every day. She will soon get that she is not allowed to run off.

.you could buy a whistle and when you blow it give your dog a treat (with the leash on) and keep doing that and soon when you blow the whistle she will come to you (with her leash off)

Does she know the basics of sit and stay? If not work on those first so she will listen to you on some level. Then have her sit and stay and then take off her leash. Tell her to stay again. If she gets up, repeat it. If she does as you say give her a treat. If she runs off and you have to go get her, discipline her. Assure she knows that her behavior is wrong and won't be tolerated. Once you let her get away with something she will do it again. She will get it eventually. You need to have patience and perseverance but it will pay off, trust me.

take ur dog to enclosed area, Whereas if you do let her off the leash she will be safe. Let her run for a while just to build off energy or frustration. Whatever direction she is running in turn the opposite way and either make a high pitch noise and call them or squat down to get to their level to help them feel secure. Don't know what type of dog you have but if it's small and they are off the leash they will only be scared(think if your small and something big comes running at you it will scare the hell out of you)no different than with animals.

or you can get a long 100ft leash to let them run and play but you still have some type of control over them and when you want them to return do the same thing, except this time they will be on the leash.

only you know ur dog, find what motivates them and enforce it. Maybe the dog is just bored and don't get enough exercise.

The best answer I can give you is a site with these professional training guides:

Hope this helps!
