Ive had my dog for six years so how old is he in dog years?

I am sending you a link to a chart. You calculate age by years and weight. That old 1/7 year thing is out dated and inaccurate.

http://www.france-property-and-information.com/dog-years-to-human-years-age.htm

It is often said that people live 7 times as long as dogs so each year of a dog's life is equal to 7 years of a human's life. This is inaccurate for two reasons:

The longest-lived breeds have an average lifespan which is double that of the shortest-lived breeds. So one can only map years after considering the breed and other factors described above.

Most breeds (especially the smaller breeds) have a relatively short childhood compare to people. A small dog with an expected lifespan of 15 years would be mature (sexually and physically) within 1 year. A man with an expected lifespan of 75 years (the current approximate male life expectancy in developed countries) would have the equivalent maturity at 15 years of age. Thus the dog reached maturity in 1/15th of its lifespan whereas the person was mature in 1/5th (15 years / 75 years) of his lifespan. Consequently, while one can say that the man is living 5 times as long as the dog, so each dog year is equal to 5 human years, the first year of life for the dog sees the same amount of development as in the first 15 or so human years. For this reason, an accurate mapping of dog years to human years needs to consider factors other than expected lifespan. The following table does this, considering the different development stages and the rates at which they are reached (on averag
e) for the different sizes of dogs.

On average, one human year equals about seven dog years. So on average your dog is 42. But it depends on the size of your dog. If it is small, then it is younger, therefore it could range from 32 to 42. If it is bigger, then it is older, therefore it could range from 42 to 52. But some breeds have their own age range and defy the size/age thing. It also depends on your breeder. My dog is big, it's a chocolate lab and it is 13 in human and still alive and healthy. So it is hard to tell without knowing your dog's breed, breeder, and how well you are taking care of it. But you can say it is around 42 years old. The longest-lived breeds have an average lifespan which is double that of the shortest-lived breeds. So one can only map years after considering the breed and other factors described above.

It may seem that we have cracked it but in even two years time, a vet like myself, might prove something completly different about the age of dogs. So it is impossible to tell the exact age of a dog without knowing every single possible variable. One year of a human does not represent seven years of a dog. That is an average. Even then averages are still miscalculated. There are also new breeds of dogs every year. Plus it depends on the world we l;ive in. Our world is filthy, imajine the lifespan more every animal in the world if we lived in a cleaner world. It could be doubled, tripled even. Human=Dog

5 months =10 years

8 months = 13 years

10 months =14 years

1 year=15 years ;

2 years = 24 years ;

3 years = 28 years;

4 years = 32 years ;

5 years = 36 years

6 years = 40 years

7 years = 44 years

8 years = 48 years

9 years = 52 years - As you can see, it gets very

10 years = 56 years - complicated. According to many

11 years = 60 years - different theories, your dog could

12 years = 64 years - be 42, 37, 40 years old. My

13 years = 68 years - theorie is that before you can

14 years = 72 years - tell the age of a dog, you must

15 years = 76 years - first know all the variables, like

16 years = 80 years - the breed, the breeder, the

17 years = 84 years -owner....

18 years = 88 years

19 years = 91 years

20 years = 94 years

21 years = 97 years

22 years = 100 years

23 years = 103 years

24 years = 106 years

You see. It gets very complicated. It is a puzzle that will baffle people for the rest of their live. Acoording to many tests. Your dog is probably around 37 years old. But who knows. Hope this helped.

actually this is funny, i am watching animal planet and it says that whole multiply it by seven years is false this is what is says:

Human=Dog

1=15 [the first year]

1=10 [the second year]

1=3 [any year after that]

so six years right, so this is the equation

15+10+3+3+3+3=37 years old.

To determinate a dog age is more complicated than simply multiplied the dog’s age by 7!

It seems that dogs maturity is more rapid than humans, a one year dog is nearly a 15 old kid, aftertwo years, dogs’s age is about a rate of 4 human years, but after the dog’s 13th, its aging rates shows to 2 and half years according to humans.

It’s very confusing. Veterinarians have now come up with a much more realistic comparison between human and dog years:

Age of Dog = "Human" Years

5 months =10 years

8 months = 13 years

10 months =14 years

1 year=15 years ;

2 years = 24 years ;

3 years = 28 years;

4 years = 32 years ;

5 years = 36 years

6 years = 40 years

7 years = 44 years

8 years = 48 years

9 years = 52 years

10 years = 56 years

11 years = 60 years

12 years = 64 years

13 years = 68 years

14 years = 72 years

15 years = 76 years

16 years = 80 years

17 years = 84 years

18 years = 88 years

19 years = 91 years

20 years = 94 years

21 years = 97 years

22 years = 100 years

23 years = 103 years

24 years = 106 years

It's SIX PLUS YEARS OLD!

There's no such thing as "dog years". Repeating a lie doesn't make it true.

It's a mature adult....working toward middle-aged.

your dog is 42 years old in dog years if he is 6 years old now.

dog years are 7 to our 1. :)

so for a one year old dog he would be seven in dog years :D

so that i believe is 41?years :D

multiply his age by 7?

please answer mine? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090804065824AAS8wxe&r=w

How old was the dog when you got him?

42= 6x7

6 x 7 = 42 years old
