I need a good small dog that will get along with my cats...?

I have 2 main coon cats, and I would like to get a small dog... my cats to get along with most dogs... they got along with a golden retriever and a dachshund... so, any good small dog breeds that will work with my cats... 10 points! Thanks!

Yorkies are really good!

Cavalier King charles spaniels are a bit big, but they are really cute

and nice with a ven temperment and are the ideal lap dogs!

West Highland White terriers are small , cute, and friendly

Some pugs go great with cats!

Jack Russells that are grown up with cats can get along very well (but

they are quite hyper...)

Any small breed with a lower energy level and some proper training will do really!

Usually if you adopt a dog at a rescue or shelter, they will tell you if the dog is cat safe or not. However that might not always be the case of shelters as they don't have much time to "test" this theory or give the dogs individual attention. Rescues however, know.

If you go to a site like www.petfinder.com there are little pictures under the dog's name that say if it is not cat safe. Some of the descriptions will mention it also. Its harder to explain then if you actually saw for yourself, so try it!

well petfinder will tell u that. there is a search engine at the left side of the screen and you can choose a small breed dog and when you click enter you it will have an x or something if it isn't good with cat's

Are you worried about the dog or the cats? Maine coons are bigger than some of the toy breeds, any of which should be good with them.
