What should I do to make my dog happy?

Hello I have a 3 year old Golden Retriever named Shadow. He has always been a very energetic fun loving dog. Yet a while ago my other Golden Retriever named Sassy passed away. They were always together since they were puppies and they had 7 puppies last year. And ever since she has been gone Shadow seems really sad. I have tried taking him out for walks and I take him to the park every sunday and I want to know what I can do please help.

Well I'm sorry about you loss. Although your dogs sadness is probably because about Sassy's death and like we all know it never fills your heart to replace the pet with a new one, it might make Shadow feel like Sassy is still with him if you consider a new puppy. Shadow can act like a father to this new puppy and have Sassy's help when he needs it.

Shadow is really sad because you let him and Sassy have a litter of puppies.

He is thinking of how no one health tested him or Sassy (How is it that Sassy is now dead just a year after having puppies) before letting them have puppies.

He is sad that you did not place the puppies on a spay and neuter contract, and that you did not promise to take any of those seven puppies at any time if the need arose.

So really I do not think he is sad about Sassys passing, he is sad for many other reason.

You can help him by neutering him if he is not already neutered, and promise never to breed dogs ever again.

Sorry you lost a pet. Sometimes dogs do grieve their losses when they lose a companion but Shadow will recover and move on with life in time.

I think that taking the dog out for exercise and maybe fetching the ball every day for a while would help... exercise and mental stimulation is great for our dogs.

try getting another dog. take him with you to an animal shelter, let him meet some dogs through the fence, if him and another dog are both wagging their tails and acting playful, then I would get it ( make sure yours is up to date on all of his shots though ). take him swimming in a pool ( buy a baby pool )

Bring him for car rides or even a dog park if you have one in your area. Dogs feel better if you tag them along with you because they feel wanted. Also, if you want/can afford another dog around his age see if they get along and adopt it!

Your dog is picking up your sadness. The best thing you can do for your dog is to project a positive energy full of love and laughter.

It can make all the difference.

Try Getting Shadow a New friend so she doesnt get lonely (: maybe seeing the dogs at the park made him miss sassy i think a new frien might help

Try Getting him a new friend. Or try to play with him not just take him out for walks.. buy him treats.. try to train him to do tricks.. either that or maybe he is just getting to old to play

Just give him lots of love, and maybe you should get another dog, that might help. Good Luck!
